Healthcare veteran joins Ren Ci - Joe Hau
Joe Hau, Ren Ci’s new Chief Executive Officer, brings with him more than 15 years of healthcare experience. He joined Ren Ci in May 2018.
What was your earliest exposure to the Health/Social services/Community Care sector?
About 30 years ago, I would visit my grandmother regularly after school when she was staying in a nursing home. I saw first-hand how the nursing staff took care of her. My grandmother stayed there for several months, and she passed on shortly after being discharged. To date, I am still very appreciative of the staff and volunteers who selflessly took care of my grandmother and the rest of the elderly in nursing homes.
Can you tell us about your previous work experiences?
Prior to joining Ren Ci, I was the Director, Planning and Development, in Tan Tock Seng Hospital. I had the opportunity to work with various community care and social care partners in helping to integrate care for the elderly. I also had the privilege to serve as Director of Corporate Services and Director of Operations at Tan Tock Seng Hospital and Head, Operations and Administration of National University Cancer Institute, Singapore (NCIS), University Surgical Cluster and University Dental Cluster at the National University Health System.
What are some of the new plans you have for the organisation?
To remain relevant, we need to adopt the concept of going beyond being a provider of healthcare to a provider of holistic care in the community. In line with the Ren Ci 2020 strategy, we are taking steps to integrate care and deliver community health services to our beneficiaries. With our strong foundation in rehabilitative and nursing home care, our new focus is to support our clients until they reach the end of their life’s journey. This includes home care services, caregiver support and clinical support for social service organisations. I look forward to work together with my team, our partners and the community to continue the good work in improving care and meaningful living for our clients.
