Nurses' Merit Award 2017 recipient - Kyaw Moe Lwin, Nurse Educator, Society for the Aged Sick
“I chose nursing as a career because caring for others is second nature to me, having experienced the burden faced by my loved ones when they were ill. The decision to pursue this career is made possible with the support of my maternal grandmother and parents. I recall taking care of a bedridden elderly resident who was afflicted with multiple pressure ulcers. I contributed my own time to change the wound dressing which took an hour daily. It was heartening to know that the resident’s condition had tremendously improved and healed. Throughout my 14 years working in Community Care, constant learning and application of up-to-date nursing knowledge and skills have enabled me to meet the ever-changing healthcare needs of our residents. This award further motivates me to continue my journey in caring for residents in the sector. I would also like to thank my senior nurses and colleagues who have provided me with constant guidance and support.”
